Seek and you will find

Meditation

Reader,

Proverbs 8 moves backwards and forwards between the personal gifts of Wisdom and its practical benefits.

Yesterday, we saw the practical value of Wisdom in our leaders, and today, the verses revert back to the promise of the eternal riches Wisdom gives, surpassing anything and everything worldly.

I've highlighted possibly the most reassuring verse in all scripture;

I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.

True seekers will find Wisdom, and when they do, will receive a "rich inheritance" as a gift. Not something that can be acquired through learning or study or success but by grace alone.

Today's text is Proverbs 8:17-21

The verses to copy today are in black. Yesterday's verses are in grey for context and clarity.

“I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.
13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech.

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have insight, I have power.
15 By me kings reign
and rulers issue decrees that are just;
16 by me princes govern,
and nobles—all who rule on earth.

17 I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.

18 With me are riches and honor,
enduring wealth and prosperity.

19 My fruit is better than fine gold;
what I yield surpasses choice silver.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness,
along the paths of justice,
21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me
and making their treasuries full.

Encouragement

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

Matthew 7:7–8 (NIV)

Meditation Reader, I'll let you into my research process for BCC. When looking for passages to feature, I'll start off creating a list from memory and then ask friends and subscribers to identify passages that fit our theme. Then I do a lot of online research creating a shortlist of 40 or so passages that I then revise to create a final program from a variety of sources, reflecting a multitude of styles. The Old Testament books are a rich resource for lengthy and moving prayers. The New...

Meditation Reader, This morning, we are copying out the third part of what is known as Jesus' High Priestly Prayer found in John 17. It is the longest recorded prayer of Jesus in any of the Gospels. Jesus prays this after He finishes His final instructions to the disciples and before He is betrayed, arrested, and crucified. First, He prays a personal prayer for His glorification, then He prays for His disciples, and He closes the prayer by praying for all believers. We copied out the first...

Meditation Reader, One of the most shocking events of my early Christian life was being asked earnestly by a fellow congregant after the Sunday service how she could pray for me. I had never been asked this question before, and I was genuinely unprepared for it. I had no answer. Not even a passable lie. To my (very) new Christian ears, it seemed like such a strange question. "Did I look like I needed anyone to pray for me?" After all, I'd turned up on time in a well-ironed shirt, cleanly...
