Good morning, Reader,
Sometimes the smallest things carry the greatest weight.
Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the entire Bible. It also sits right at the very center of Scripture, chapter 595 out of 1,189.
Exactly halfway through the story of God’s Word, everything converges on this brief call to praise.
In just 16 Hebrew words, the Psalmist summarizes the core of the gospel: God's love toward us is immense, His faithfulness never ends, and His mercy is meant to reach every nation and every heart.
The metrical version has an emphasis not seen so clearly in the NIV. The metrical "O give ye praise unto the Lord, all nations that be..." suggests every nation that currently exists or ever will exist. So not just "Praise the Lord, all you (current) nations..." but a suggestion of something enduring and unending.
